At noon Feb. 15, Smith Galey, one of the oldest and most widely known citizens of Montgomery county, died at his home on the Terre Haute road near Offiel's creek. He was 80 years of age and had lived on the farm he owned and died on for 60 years. Mr. Galey was a most substantial citizen and was a leading member of the First Presbyterian church of this city. Mr. Galey was married twice and his second wife survives him. He leaves the following sons, John, James, William and Samuel, also the following daughters' Mrs. McCrea of Kentland, Miss Sarah Galey, Mrs. Ben Easley, Mrs. Graham. Two daughters died before him, Mrs. Wm, Vanarsdall and Mrs. Mart Simpson. The funeral occurred Friday morning, conducted by Rev. Everet P. Thomson. Interment at the Odd Fellows cemetery.

Samuel Smith Galey was born in Mercer county, Kentucky, August 26, 1809. He was married April 14, 1829, to Eliza Vanice. On October 17, 1829, they moved to this county and settled on a farm. He has lived there continuously until his death.. By his first wife were born ten children, four sous and six daughters August 6, 1866 the mother departed this life. Within the last, two and a half years three of the daughters have died. December 14, 1870, he was married to Emily Wilhite who survives him. In all his years be has lived an honest, upright life Although unassuming he always cherished the aspect of his neighbors and friends, and departed this life Feb 15,1893. leaving the world better for his having lived in it. He has gone to a meet his reward.

For 60 years had Mr. Smith Galey lived on a farm on Offield Creek, three scores years given up to honest, laborious toil. At noon yesterday he passed away at the rip age of 80 years beloved and hoinored by all who knew him. His second wife survives him. His sons were: William, John, Samuel and James. His daughters were Mrs. Ben Easley, Miss Sarah Galey, Mrs. Graham, Mrs. McCrea of Kentland. Two daughters, Mrs. Mart Simpson and Mrs. Wm. Vanarsdall preceded him to the grave. The funeral services will be conducted at the home place at 10:30 tomorrow by Rev. EB Thomson. Interment at Odd Fellows. - kbz
